A New Ghost Story Confronting the Dark Legacy of Don't Ask Don't Tell
"Don't Tell": My longest work to date is out now in Cosmic Horror Monthly
Greetings to the Macabre Mob,
Just a short note this week, in which I share the news of my most recent publication, and my first ever cover name drop!
“Don’t Tell” is perhaps my favorite published work yet, and is one that cuts close to the bone. Rooted in some very real-world occurrences from my own life, this story casts a hard eye on the now-defunct military policy of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, wherein gay and lesbian Americans were only allowed to serve in uniform under the guise of subterfuge. The chain of command was not allowed to ask you if you were gay, and if you were, you weren’t allowed to tell anyone, forcing everyone involved to live and serve in a world of dishonor and lies.
The story takes place at my alma mater, the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, where I went to school in the late 1990’s and graduated with the class of 2000. The institution remains near and dear to my heart, despite its shortcomings, and I remain an active and involved alumnus to this date.
I hope the story forces you to stop and think about what we ask of the young men and women of our military, and ALSO that it worms its way into your thoughts and scares the bejeezus out of you.
Enjoy.
